With the situation in Ukraine changing – and worsening – by the minute, Wizz Air is trying to rescue its crews and the four aircraft it has stranded in the country after the airspace was closed due to the war with Russia, which started last night. The news was broken by Britain’s The Telegraph.

According to the airline’s latest results disclosure to investors, Wizz Air has two bases in Ukraine. Seven aircraft are based in Kyiv and three are in Lviv. According to The Telegraph, three of the airplanes stranded are in the former and one is in the latter.

«We will be evacuating, at the earliest opportunity, all of our Ukraine-based crew, their immediate families, and any families of the airline’s Ukrainian nationals who wish to leave the country». This is what a spokesperson of the airline stated, says the English newspaper.

Wizz Air was the second-largest airline in Ukraine by seats and ASKs in January, as per Cirium’s Diio Mi application. A spokesperson of Ryanair confirmed to The Telegraph that no aircraft or crew were stranded in the country – it has no airplanes based there.
