The Ministry of Economy of Argentina, through the Undersecretariat of Air Transport, issued Disposition 4/2025, published in the Official Gazette. This measure authorizes the Colombian airline Aerorepública S.A. (the legal name of Wingo, the low-cost carrier of Copa Holdings) to expand its operations in the country. It allows the airline to operate new routes connecting cities in Colombia with Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, and Rosario, with layovers in Panama.

This approval follows a request from Aerorepública to add new Argentine destinations to its network, under the bilateral air transport agreement between Argentina and Colombia, established in the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding. Previously, the airline was only authorized to operate flights between Colombian cities, Panama, and Buenos Aires, as per Resolution 379/2022 issued by the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC).

    Key changes:

    • The 2022 authorization was revoked to enable an expanded route network. Wingo is now authorized to operate flights between Colombian cities (Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, San Andrés, Pereira, Bucaramanga) and Argentine destinations (Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario), via Panama.
    • The airline has been granted fifth-freedom traffic rights, allowing it to carry passengers and cargo between Panama and Argentina as part of its international operations.

The resolution highlights that Wingo has met all legal and administrative requirements to obtain these expanded operational rights. The Undersecretariat of Air Transport noted that this measure aligns with current bilateral agreements and aims to strengthen connectivity between Argentina and Colombia.
