WestJet Announces New Route to Los Angeles

WestJet announces a fifth service to Los Angeles (LAX) with a new route from Winnipeg (YWG), with three weekly flights operating year-round. This non-stop connection seeks to strengthen the film and television industry between Manitoba and California.
«WestJet is delighted to be part of this investment that creates a new and direct link for business, tourism and entertainment between these two unique cities, building on our commitment to Winnipeg,» said John Weatherill, WestJet, executive vice-president and chief commercial officer.
Last year, the film and television industry brought more than $364.5 million in production volume to Manitoba, and this new route will allow for further growth and investment in the province.
«Manitoba’s film and television industry plays a key role in our provincial economy, and I want to congratulate WestJet on this strategic investment that will have significant benefits not only for the entertainment industry, but also for Manitoba’s tourism, trade and business sectors,» said Heather Stefanson, Premier of Manitoba.
WestJet will be the only airline to connect Winnipeg to California, with this new service the Canadian airline is also looking to stimulate corporate and leisure travel, as well as support economic growth in the province of Manitoba.
Flight Itinerary
- Winnipeg – Los Angeles Flight WS 1314 YWG 07:00 – LAX 08:50 Monday, Friday and Saturday.
- Los Angeles – Winnipeg Flight WS 1315 LAX 09:35 – YWG 15:07 Monday, Friday and Saturday.
The route will be operated on Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 132 seats in two classes (12 Premium Economy/120 Economy) and promotional fares are available from USD 215 each way.
For this winter season, WestJet will be the leading airline operator in Winnipeg and will offer more non-stop routes and seats than any other airline. WestJet Group will increase capacity at James Armstrong Richardson Airport (YWG) by 80% compared to 2021, serving 22 nonstop routes and producing the most growth of any other airfield where the group operates.
Partnership with Delta Air Lines
Customers have the option of connecting from Los Angeles (LAX) thanks to WestJet’s partnership with Delta Air Lines, where they can enjoy the U.S. carrier’s extensive network across 20 codeshare cities from the United States.
Customers can redeem miles between the two airlines, in addition to premium frequent flyer benefits where eligible guests will have access to Delta’s Sky Club lounge at LAX.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium for the 2022/2023 winter season, WestJet will have an offering from Los Angeles (LAX) of 13,176 seats per week on 82 air operations in five destinations including Edmonton (YEG), Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Toronto (YYZ) and Winnipeg (YWG).
