Volaris announced today, October 27, that it decided to start operations at AIFA as of March 21, 2022, inaugurating two routes: Tijuana (TIJ) and Cancun (CUN).

The company stressed that it believes it will be viable to operate at the terminal «after a comprehensive analysis of the progress of the construction, the progress in the certification processes, the development of access roads, the efforts in tariffs and aeronautical and operational safety.»

Volaris emphasizes that the expansion to AIFA does not alter the current strategy, so it will continue to operate at the AICM and the other 42 Mexican airports in which it currently has a presence.

Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris, said, «In updating our strategy for continued expansion and growth in Mexico, where we transport around 25 million passengers, we have seen that in the immediate area of the new airport alone there is a market of 4.8 million potential customers.»

«The extensive knowledge of the segment of those visiting friends and family, our leadership in the Mexican domestic market and expertise in operational safety were key in the decision to reach out to a new destination to continue democratizing air transportation in Mexico,» he concluded.

General Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suarez, responsible for the construction of the Felipe Angeles and member of the Army Corps of Engineers, said on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense that «it is an honor to receive the support of the fastest-growing airline in the national territory with the announcement of the first flights at the destination. This firm decision is proof of the capacity that Volaris has demonstrated to face the challenges and opportunities of the future of aviation in the country.»

Volaris will operate daily flights to Tijuana and Cancun from AIFA beginning March 21, 2022, and ticket sales for those routes were inaugurated today at volaris.com.
