Uzbekistan Airways Orders 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners in $2 Billion Deal
State-owned carrier Uzbekistan Airways has announced the purchase of 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032. The deal is valued at $2 billion at list prices.
Currently, the airline operates seven Dreamliners, including one VIP-configured aircraft for government use. The existing fleet of 787-8s, acquired in 2007, 2016, and 2018, ranges in age from 5.6 to 8.5 years.
Government-Backed Investment in Fleet Expansion
Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has approved $400 million in international financing for the country’s transportation sector, with $100 million allocated to Uzbekistan Airways. The airline is also in advanced negotiations with Deutsche Bank to secure additional funding.
This new Boeing order follows a previous Airbus deal signed in November 2022, in which Uzbekistan Airways purchased 12 narrow-body aircraft: eight A320-200Ns and four A321-200Ns. The order was later expanded to 14 units, all A321neos.
Modernization and Network Growth
According to ANT, Uzbekistan Airways currently operates flights to 71 airports in 29 countries, with a fleet of 44 aircraft, including Airbus A320, A321, A330, Boeing 767, 787-8, and the Ilyushin Il-76TD. In recent years, the airline has focused on modernizing its fleet and expanding its route network, leveraging its strategic position between Asia and Europe.
