Ambassador Sebastian J. Bastian, representative of The Bahamas in several Central American nations, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an Air Services Agreement with El Salvador, aiming to foster trade, tourism, and economic cooperation between the two nations.

The agreement capitalizes on El Salvador's economic and tourism growth and improvements in security, combined with The Bahamas' strong purchasing power, as its economy heavily relies on tourism. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Philip Davis's strategy to diversify international partnerships and promote economic growth by engaging with non-traditional allies.

“This collaboration underscores our commitment to strengthening connectivity and unlocking new opportunities for economic empowerment,” said Bastian.

Key benefits of the agreement include:

    • Enhanced direct connectivity between The Bahamas and El Salvador, facilitating access between Central America and the Caribbean.
    • Expanded opportunities in tourism and agribusiness, promoting economic growth in both countries.
    • Renewed focus on non-traditional strategic alliances to diversify partnerships.
    • Mutual economic development and increased regional influence for both nations.

Avianca and Volaris El Salvador operate from El Salvador, while The Bahamas is home to Bahamasair, Western Air, and smaller airlines. However, The Bahamas currently faces limited connectivity to Latin America and the Caribbean, with only three weekly flights by Copa Airlines connecting Nassau to Panama. Most flights to the region require stopovers in the United States, which adds visa requirements for travelers.
