The stipulated start dates for these new routes are to Tapachula from August 13 with two weekly frequencies on Monday and Friday, while to Cancun for its part, it will be from August 19 with 4 weekly frequencies on Tuesday, Thursday , Saturdays and Sundays.

Fares for both sections range from $ 139 onwards and it is expected that from October there will be a daily flight to each of the destinations.

The Guatemalan company currently operates with a fleet of eight aircraft of two different models to carry out its itineraries, 7 are Saab 340s that have capacity for 34 passengers in economy class and one is the Embraer 135/45 with capacity for 50 passengers also in economy class.

«The connectivity will not only be profitable from the business, commercial and tourist point of view, but it also contributes to the relationship of the villages,» said Julio Alejandro Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines.

Gamero wants to continue expanding the company’s route portfolio and ensures that Cancun is a gateway for tourists from all over the world, given that millions of visitors arrive each year with the aim of getting to know its paradisiacal beaches. The alliances with tour operators, for their part, play an important role for Guatemala because they make known its catalog of destinations within the Cancun product.

As for Tapachula, it has a location on the map that makes it a strategic point for the strengthening of economic activity and local tourism because many of the passengers who also arrive in Guatemala from this destination, do so in search of professional services that the country can offer.

The company, which currently sells tickets in 130 different countries, also announced the increase in total connectivity as it will maintain its daily flights to Honduras, Belize and El Salvador.

«These points will benefit from the flights, the intention is to create a connection bank in Guatemala City, this is what has been done, and the Tapachula and Cancun routes will be connected with the rest of Central America,» completed Gamero.

For his part, the Consul of Mexico in Guatemala, Alejandro Martínez, commented on the initiative to connect his country of residence with the states of Chiapas and Quintana Ro, in order to achieve a tourist and commercial increase in places that are very abundant by Guatemalan citizens.
