Since June 1st, passengers have had access to full internet services on all flights operated by Airbus A320 and A321. This aircraft types represent more than 80% of the fleet. Spirit also has 31 Airbus A319 aircraft in operation. According to both companies, new aircraft joining the fleet will also be equipped with the FlytLIVE system.

With the implementation of the new connectivity service, travelers can consume audiovisual content, access online games and use social media through their personal devices. On the other hand, and as is the case with this type of technology, FlytLIVE is also a possibility for the airline to generate new revenue and to count with an additional advertising channel.

«This is a real ground-breaking moment in the industry as Spirit adds in-flight amenities and product options that have previously not been available on ultra-low fare carriers», said Matt Klein, the airline’s Executive VP and CCO.

    Operation and features

The tool offers high-performance connectivity from Ka band frequencies. It uses the state-of-the-art technology and satellite network of telecommunications services companies SES and Hughes. According to Thales, it provides connection speeds of up to 400 Mbps.
