SKY Airline marks six years in Peru with over 15 million passengers transported

SKY Airline is celebrating six years of operations in the Peruvian market this month. Since launching in 2019, the airline has transported more than 15 million passengers and achieved a 19% share of the domestic market, according to Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC)—an 11-point increase from its initial share, securing its position as the second-largest domestic carrier in Peru.
Currently, SKY operates in 13 domestic destinations from its base in Lima, having completed 75,826 domestic flights and carrying 11.5 million passengers on internal routes.
According to José Raúl Vargas, General Manager of SKY in Peru, “Since we began operations, Cusco–Lima has become our busiest route, with 2.9 million passengers transported, driven by its tourist appeal.” He also highlighted the launch of two new routes from Cusco—Arequipa and Puerto Maldonado—with daily flights. “Arequipa is our second busiest route, with 1.95 million passengers since 2019. It’s followed by Piura, which has seen 1.3 million passengers in the same period,” he added.
International Expansion and Overseas Growth
Internationally, SKY has grown from operating just the Lima–Santiago route to maintaining connections with six destinations: three in South America (Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Santiago) and three in the Northern Hemisphere (Punta Cana, Cancún, and Miami).
The airline reports that its share of Peru’s international market has increased fivefold since 2019, rising from 5% to 25% in 2025. As of March this year, 3.2 million passengers have flown with SKY on international routes, with 40,855 total international operations.
Among the most popular international routes, Lima–Santiago leads with 1.8 million passengers in six years, followed by Cancún with 385,000 travelers since its 2020 launch, and Miami with 315,000 passengers since service began three years ago, using Airbus A320neo aircraft.
Fleet and Industry Recognition
SKY operates a fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, equipped with next-generation technology that, the airline says, enhances fuel efficiency and reduces emissions intensity.
In 2024, SKY was ranked as having the second-newest fleet in South America by aviation platform CH-Aviation. That same year, it was named South America’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the fourth time by SKYTRAX. In 2023, SKY also won the national customer satisfaction award in Chile in the airline category.
Low-Cost Model and Regional Footprint
With a 22-year history, SKY now has a presence in eight countries across the Americas, operating both domestic and international flights through its Chile and Peru branches. Throughout its history, the airline has transported more than 65 million passengers.
In marking its anniversary, SKY highlighted the support of Peruvian travelers in helping the airline solidify its role as a key player in the region’s aviation sector. As Vargas noted, “As part of our commitment to strengthening connectivity, our expansion of national and international routes aims to improve air accessibility both within and beyond the country.”
