Qatar Airways confirmed the addition of Bogotá, Colombia, and Caracas, Venezuela, to its global network of destinations, after receiving approval from Colombia's Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil) to operate this new route. Flights will begin in early summer 2025 with two weekly frequencies, on Wednesdays and Sundays, connecting Doha (DOH) with Bogotá (BOG) and continuing to Caracas (CCS). The return flight will be direct from Caracas to Doha.

This expansion makes Qatar Airways the first airline to offer direct flights between the Middle East and Colombia, and the only Middle Eastern carrier currently connecting with Venezuela. With the inclusion of these cities, the airline expands its network in the Americas to 16 destinations, joining others such as New York, Miami, São Paulo, and Toronto.

The flights will be operated using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, equipped with 42 seats in Business Class and 234 in Economy Class. Additionally, this new connection will become Qatar Airways' second-longest flight to the Americas, enhancing connectivity options between South America, the Middle East, and more than 170 destinations in its global network.

    Approval Process

The authorization of this route is the result of a request submitted by Qatar Airways to Aerocivil in December 2024. In the initial proposal, the airline outlined four weekly frequencies, but later adjusted its request to two flights per week, including a technical stop in Caracas. The technical evaluation and compliance with bilateral agreements between Colombia and Qatar ensured the feasibility of the operation.

According to official documents, the airline also considered using Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for this route. The process included a public consultation period for stakeholders to submit comments.

Qatar Airways already operates two daily flights between Doha and São Paulo and maintains a codeshare agreement with LATAM Airlines, enabling connections to numerous destinations in the region. The new route strengthens its expansion strategy in Latin America, competing with other Gulf carriers, such as Emirates, which already operates in Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina.
