Peru Grants Final Approval for Delta's Seasonal Flight Between Salt Lake City and Lima
Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has granted final authorization to Delta Air Lines to operate its new seasonal route between its hub in Salt Lake City (SLC) and Lima (LIM), cementing the only direct air link between Utah and South America.
This permit, made official through Directorial Resolution No. 0672-2025-MTC/12, was the last required regulatory step for the route, which the airline had already announced and put on sale last July. The inaugural service is scheduled for this upcoming December 4, 2025.
Delta's operation will be seasonal, ending on January 25, 2026. The flights will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, configured with Delta One, Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin classes. The resolution from the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) also renews Delta's operating permit for its established route between Atlanta (ATL) and Lima for four years.
At the time of the announcement, Paul Baldoni, Delta's Senior Vice President of Network Planning, highlighted the route's importance for customers "in Salt Lake City and across the Mountain West," adding that this expanded connectivity provides "a faster, more convenient way to reach Lima and other major cities in South America."
A Strategic Connection with a Key Partner
The choice of Lima is not coincidental. The Peruvian capital is one of the most important connection centers for LATAM Airlines, Delta's partner airline in the region. This new service will allow passengers arriving from Salt Lake City to seamlessly connect to other South American destinations such as São Paulo (GRU), Buenos Aires (EZE), and Santiago de Chile (SCL).
From its hub in Salt Lake City, Delta offers a robust international network that includes key partner destinations like Mexico City (Aeroméxico), Calgary (WestJet), Amsterdam (KLM), Paris (Air France), London (Virgin Atlantic), and Seoul (Korean Air). The addition of Lima reinforces the strategy of connecting its domestic network with the hubs of its global allies, serving what the airline states is the most in-demand South American city from SLC.
