LATAM resumes passenger flights at Greater São Paulo's third airport
LATAM Brasil will resume passenger flights at Viracopos International Airport in Campinas (São Paulo), years after suspending this service and maintaining only cargo operations at the terminal. The airport, located in the interior of São Paulo state, serves as the third commercial hub for the São Paulo metropolitan area.
The airline’s last commercial flights in Campinas took place in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic brought Brazilian aviation to a near standstill.
Since then, only Azul Linhas Aéreas—which is based at Viracopos and connects to dozens of destinations—and GOL Linhas Aéreas, with flights to Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador, have continued passenger operations at the airport.
LATAM has now announced its return, with new flights to and from Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasília (DF), offering three daily departures. The service is set to begin in August this year, with ticket sales scheduled to open in May. Flights will be operated using aircraft from the Airbus A320 family, including the A321, the largest model in the lineup, capable of seating up to 214 passengers.
Prior to the pandemic, the airline had already operated flights between Viracopos and Brasília, with one to two daily departures, according to LATAM’s partner media outlet in Brazil, AEROIN.
