LATAM Peru relaunches five international routes and one domestic route in July

LATAM Group presented its passenger operations projection for July, revealing that the subsidiary in Peru recovered 70% of its flights compared to the same period in 2019. This places it, in available seat-kilometers/ASK, as the third subsidiary with the best level of recovery after those of Colombia and Brazil.
The company recovered 92% of domestic supply with 171 daily flights on average, which included the restart of the link between Cusco (CUZ) and Juliaca (JUL). Last month it had resumed flights to Puerto Maldonado (PEM) from the gateway to Machu Picchu.
With this, in total LATAM will have 20 domestic routes including flights from:
- Lima (LIM) to: Arequipa (AQP), Ayacucho (AYP), Cajamarca (CJA), Chiclayo (CIX), Cusco (CUZ), Ilo (ILQ), Iquitos (IQT), Jauja (JAU), Juliaca (JUL), Piura (PIU), Pucallpa (PCL), Puerto Maldonado (PEM), Tacna (TCQ), Tarapoto (TPP), Talara (TYL), Trujillo (TRU) and Tumbes (TBP).
- Cusco (CUZ) to: Arequipa (AQP), Juliaca (JUL) and Puerto Maldonado (PEM).
During the first four months of 2022 (January-April), the company mobilized 2,351,800 passengers within Peru, with a 66.56% market share according to Peru’s DGAC. LATAM should recover its flights to Jaén, which had to be suspended due to the reprehensible conditions of the runway.
In 2019 it also had connections to Iquitos, Pisco and Trujillo from Cusco, which have not officially announced their return.
International market
In Peru, it recovered 70% of the international supply during July, 8% more than last month.
It resumed direct flights to San José (SJO) in Costa Rica, marking LATAM’s return to Central America, with three weekly frequencies on Airbus A320 aircraft. It will have to compete against Avianca and Volaris Costa Rica, which recently began operations.
Medellín/Rionegro (MDE) and Cali (CLO), in Colombia, will once again have international flights with LATAM, also with three weekly frequencies. These operations join the current connections to Cartagena (CTG) and Bogota (BOG) from Lima (LIM).
Colombia is Peru’s fourth most important market, with 275,044 passengers flown between January and May 2022, according to Aerocivil, and with a strong presence of Colombian carriers Avianca and VIVA. SKY Airline recently joined with flights to Bogota.
Porto Alegre (POA) became the third Brazilian destination to recover flights from Lima (LIM) with three weekly frequencies. In addition, Cusco (CUZ) once again had direct international flights to Santiago (SCL), Chile.
There are 10 of LATAM’s destinations that still have no official restart date from Lima, Peru, being the following:
- Argentina: Salta (SLA), Rosario (ROS) and Tucumán (TUC).
- Brazil: Brasilia (BSB),
- Chile: Antofagasta (ANF), Calama (CJC) and Concepción (CCP).
- Cuba: Havana (HAV).
- Spain: Barcelona (BCN).
- Jamaica: Montego Bay (MBJ).
Mendoza (MDZ) and Foz do Iguacu (IGU) were announced to reconnect with Peru as of October 30, 2022 with three weekly flights.
