JetSMART Restructures Executive Team in Chile to Strengthen Regional Strategy
Gabriela León Named New Country Manager in Chile; Pedro Asenjo to Lead the Airline’s Strategic Planning
JetSMART has announced a significant restructuring of its executive team, introducing changes aimed at reinforcing its regional expansion strategy. Gabriela León Soler, who previously led the network planning and strategy division, has been appointed as the new Country Manager for Chile, while Pedro Asenjo, the outgoing Country Manager, will now serve as Director of Strategy and Network Planning for the entire company.
The announcement was made by JetSMART CEO Estuardo Ortiz, who praised both executives in a social media post for their contributions to the airline’s growth since its inception.
Organizational changes to support growth
Founded in 2016 by Indigo Partners, JetSMART has built a strong route network connecting destinations within Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil, in addition to international routes. The airline has transported over 39 million passengers and operates a fleet of 46 aircraft under the ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) model.
In this context, the leadership changes are designed to strengthen two strategic areas: local leadership in Chile—JetSMART’s home market—and the broader planning of its regional growth in an increasingly competitive environment.
Gabriela León brings extensive internal knowledge and familiarity with JetSMART’s organizational culture. In her previous role, she was directly involved in route design and execution, as well as the evaluation of expansion opportunities. Her appointment aims to ensure operational continuity in Chile while further consolidating the brand in the domestic market.
Pedro Asenjo, a founding executive of JetSMART, has played a key role in the airline’s development since its early stages. As he transitions to the corporate level as Director of Strategy and Network Planning, he will lead network planning across all JetSMART markets, including its subsidiaries in Argentina and Peru, as well as upcoming projects.

Internal promotion and capacity building
The decision to promote executives from within aligns with JetSMART’s strategy of developing internal talent. In the words of CEO Estuardo Ortiz, these changes are “not just new roles. They are signals of growth, evolution, and confidence in the talent we have developed from within.”
This leadership model allows the airline to maintain operational consistency with its long-term vision and avoid disruptions during periods of sustained growth. It also reinforces continuity in leadership, which is vital in an industry facing rising operational costs, airport congestion, and increasing competition in both domestic and regional markets.
JetSMART remains committed to becoming South America’s leading ultra low-cost carrier, with a fleet plan that envisions over 100 aircraft by 2030, focusing on a point-to-point connectivity model at low fares.
With this reorganization, the airline aims to sustain its growth trajectory and strengthen its strategic planning capabilities to swiftly respond to demand across various markets in the region.
