JetSMART Named Best Low-Cost Airline in South America at 2025 Skytrax Awards
The ULCC was recognized for the third time at the World Airline Awards, reaffirming its leadership in the region.
As part of the Paris Air Show, JetSMART was awarded Best Low-Cost Airline in South America at the 2025 World Airline Awards, hosted by Skytrax, a leading global airline rating and review organization. This marks the third time the carrier has received the honor, having previously won in 2021 and 2023.
The award ceremony took place at the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace, with JetSMART COO Rodrigo Barrios and Digital Experience Manager Aylin Ubilla in attendance. Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, stated that the award reflects positive customer feedback across key areas such as on-time performance, travel experience, and affordable fares.

Founded in 2017, JetSMART has quickly grown into one of the fastest-expanding ultra low-cost carriers (ULCCs) in the region. According to CH-Aviation and YAFA data, the airline operates a fleet of 49 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, making it the largest and most modern ULCC in South America.
In Chile, where the airline is headquartered, JetSMART leads in service quality and punctuality, according to quarterly reports from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC). To further enhance local operations, the airline recently added three new aircraft, implemented a towbarless pushback system at Santiago Airport (SCL), and activated a deicing system to ensure operational efficiency in adverse weather conditions.
JetSMART is also advancing in commercial integration with global carriers. As of this month, AAdvantage® miles from American Airlines can be redeemed on JetSMART-operated flights across both domestic and international South American routes, offering expanded benefits to frequent travelers.
With nearly 40 million passengers transported since its launch and a growing presence across multiple South American markets, JetSMART has established itself as the third-largest airline operator in the region. The company is backed by Indigo Partners, the investment firm behind other ULCCs such as Wizz Air, Frontier, and Volaris.
