IATA Wings of Change Highlights Air Cargo Challenges and Opportunities in Latin America
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) hosted a panel at IATA Wings of Change focused on the challenges and opportunities facing the air cargo industry in Latin America. Representatives from key companies such as Talma Servicios Aeroportuarios, Avianca Cargo, Expeditors, and BoxC participated in the discussion.
During the session, panelists emphasized the importance of strategic alliances in addressing geopolitical tensions, technological advancements, and regulatory changes impacting the sector. Participating companies shared their strategies for adapting to an evolving environment. For example, Avianca Cargo has expanded its fleet and established partnerships with companies like Aero Unión and Amazon Air Cargo. Talma highlighted the need for continuous communication with stakeholders across the logistics ecosystem to strengthen operational resilience, while Expeditors stressed the value of long-term relationships built on a flexible approach.
One key topic discussed was the role of regulators and the importance of effective collaboration to facilitate trade. In this context, the cooperative experience between Talma and customs authorities in Peru was shared as a model for building institutional trust.
Technology also played a central role in the conversation. Its function as a backbone of the value chain and its potential to meet market challenges were acknowledged—provided that strong synergies between companies and suppliers are in place.
On the topic of infrastructure, Talma mentioned ongoing investments aimed at meeting the demands of e-commerce, underscoring the need for joint planning to minimize risks.
The session concluded with the announcement of IATA Cargo Day, which will be held on October 28 in Bogotá, where these and many other air cargo-related topics will be explored in greater depth.
