GlobalX website hacked, airline contracted for migrant deportations
A subdomain of GlobalX, an airline contracted by the U.S. government for deportations to a detention center in El Salvador, was breached by a group identifying itself as part of the Anonymous collective.
Website linked to GlobalX Airlines hacked by group claiming affiliation with Anonymous, the well-known hacktivist collective. The breach was discovered Monday, and according to Reuters, the site displayed a black screen with white text, accompanied by the image of a Guy Fawkes mask, a symbol commonly associated with the group.
The message left by the hackers accused the company of defying court orders, stating that the cyberattack was an attempt to enforce a legal ruling that had allegedly been ignored. "Anonymous has decided to enforce the judge's order, as you and your servile staff continue to ignore legal decisions that go against your fascist agenda," the message read, as reported by Reuters.
GlobalX has come under scrutiny in recent months for its role in deportation flights of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, conducted under the administration of former President Donald Trump. These flights reportedly continued despite a court order calling for their suspension, and were recently ruled illegal—though the policy has yet to be officially reversed.
According to Reuters, neither GlobalX nor U.S. immigration authorities responded to requests for comment following the website breach. The airline was previously the subject of a ProPublica investigation, in which former flight attendants raised concerns about conditions on board and the treatment of detainees during these operations.
