Aerolíneas Argentinas has launched an international tender for the operating lease of two factory-new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. The company aims to incorporate these planes into its fleet during 2026, or on the earliest available delivery dates, under a 12-year lease agreement.
The call for bids, detailed in a Request for Proposal (RFP) document, is aimed at aircraft leasing companies, commercial banks, and financial institutions. A key point of the tender is that Aerolíneas Argentinas will not accept proposals from intermediaries or brokers, choosing to deal directly with potential lessors.
According to the document issued by the company, proposals must be submitted by September 18, 2025. The airline specifies its interest in aircraft equipped with either 27K or 28K thrust-rated engines, as both configurations are compatible with its current operational requirements and offer flexibility for fleet deployment.
The selection of the most suitable proposal will not be based solely on the lowest lease rate offered. Aerolíneas Argentinas will evaluate a set of factors including the aircraft's technical condition, delivery and redelivery terms, as well as the economic and contractual conditions of the agreement.
This move to add two more Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft aligns with the airline's modernization and expansion plan for its single-aisle fleet. Currently, Aerolíneas Argentinas already operates several units of this model, which complement its fleet of previous-generation Boeing 737s (Next Generation).
The current fleet of Aerolíneas Argentinas consists of 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8, 28 Boeing 737-800, 6 Boeing 737-700, and two Boeing 737-800SF freighters. This is complemented by 24 Embraer E190 jets for lower-density routes and 10 Airbus A330-200 aircraft for its long-haul operations. The arrival of the two new units would bring the total MAX variant count to 15 aircraft, continuing the renewal process for its single-aisle fleet.
The 737 MAX offers greater fuel efficiency and a reduced noise and emissions footprint compared to the models it replaces. This allows the airline to optimize its operational costs and improve its environmental performance on domestic and regional routes. The tender process will be managed internally, and the final award of the winning proposal will be subject to the approval of the company's Board of Directors.
