The governments of Colombia and Argentina have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing bilateral air connectivity, as part of a broader agenda focused on regional integration.

The agreement opens the door for the creation of new routes, more affordable fares, and improved service quality for passengers. It also includes provisions to facilitate the transport of cargo and mail, which is expected to benefit tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two countries.

A key element of the agreement is the liberalization of the air market up to the sixth freedom of the air, allowing airlines to operate joint routes without restrictions on carriers or flight frequencies.

“This agreement is key to expanding Colombia’s air connectivity with the world, especially with Latin America. We will continue growing in passenger numbers and opportunities for all,” said Colombia’s Minister of Transport, María Fernanda Rojas.

“We’re moving from a more controlled model to one that offers greater possibilities, which means a major opportunity for Colombian airlines, and above all, more benefits for passengers in terms of options,” she added.

“The agreement positions us as a hub in Latin America, boosting competitiveness and enabling new connections between cities in Argentina and Colombia that currently don't exist,” she concluded.

With this new agreement, airlines will no longer need to rely on indirect routes to serve the Argentina–Colombia market— such as those once used by GOL and LATAM, operating flights from São Paulo to Buenos Aires with a stop in Colombia, or Avianca, which still runs flights originating in Quito and Guayaquil.

The current flight offerings between Colombia and Argentina are as follows:

    Avianca

    • 7 weekly flights between Bogotá and Buenos Aires-Aeroparque
    • 17 weekly flights between Bogotá and Buenos Aires-Ezeiza
    • 7 weekly flights between Medellín and Buenos Aires
    • 3 weekly flights between Bogotá and Córdoba (starting June)

    Aerolíneas Argentinas

    • 7 weekly flights between Buenos Aires-Aeroparque and Bogotá
