Fabián Lombardo to Represent Aerolíneas Argentinas at IATA’s Annual General Meeting in New Delhi
The world’s premier commercial aviation summit will take place from June 1 to 3.
Aerolíneas Argentinas will be represented by company president Fabián Lombardo at the 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS), sources linked to the state-owned airline confirmed to Aviacionline.
The gathering of global airline leaders will take place from June 1 to 3 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi, India, hosted by IndiGo as the official airline partner.
Key themes at the event will include the aviation value chain and government collaboration, at a time when the aviation industry faces increasingly complex and dynamic operational, commercial, and geopolitical environments.
Lombardo’s confirmed attendance in Delhi comes amid growing speculation about his potential departure from Aerolíneas Argentinas, driven by broader changes underway in Argentina's commercial aviation sector initiated by the national government.
However, industry sources recently denied reports of Lombardo’s removal. “Since he took office, there’s been a sector that wants him out, but another that supports him because he’s doing what needs to be done,” said one source.
Speculation intensified after the resignations of former National Secretary of Transportation Franco Mogetta and María Julia Cordero, who had headed the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC). Rumors even circulated that following Mogetta’s resignation, signing authority had been revoked from Cordero, Deputy Secretary of Air Transport Hernán Gómez, and Lombardo himself.
The same sources clarified that the move was intended to pause decisions until Mogetta’s replacement was appointed, and that in Lombardo’s case, the measure did not affect Aerolíneas, which continued normal administrative operations.
Regardless of the rumors surrounding Lombardo’s future, what is certain is that he will be present at the most significant global aviation event, where he will have the opportunity to engage with leaders from the world’s top airlines, meet with manufacturers and investors, and perhaps discuss the ever-looming possibility of privatization of the airline.
