Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will receive an additional $31 million in grants through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act to help reconfigure and restore the terminal roadway systems that provide access to the airport, the Biden-Harris Administration announced this week.

The LAX Terminal Roads Project addresses one of the airport’s biggest challenges by modernizing the roadway systems, including reconfiguring the main entrance to the airport. The project will construct nearly 13 kilometers of roadway leading to and within the LAX Central Terminal area. The results will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion in nearby areas.

«For Los Angeles, this critical funding from the Biden-Harris Administration means more convenience for commuters, improved global trade flow through this critical gateway and more jobs for Angelenos. It’s an investment that will generate benefits in many ways,» said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

In July of last year, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced $50 million for LAX through the same infrastructure legislation. LAX received one of the largest grants in FY 2023 at $31 million, bringing the total investment to $81 million over the first 24 months of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding program.

Chairman Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill provides a total of $25 billion in funding for airport infrastructure renewal over a five-year period as defined in the Airport Improvement Grant Program, including $5 billion in competitive grants under the Airport Terminal Program, created by one of three major projects for the aviation industry created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.

With additional transit solutions currently in the pipeline, such as LAX’s anticipated People Mover train, the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility, and the considered Metro Rail and bus connections, LAX is becoming a world-class destination that offers convenient and efficient transportation options to meet travel needs.
