As anticipated a few days ago, Delta Air Lines confirmed this Friday that it will incorporate 20 new Airbus A350-1000s by 2026, making it the first operator of the largest variant of that family in the American continent.

In addition, considering that it already operates 27 A350-900s and still has 16 pending delivery, Delta will have one of the largest A350 fleets in the world, totaling 63 aircraft.

«The A350-1000 will be the largest and most efficient aircraft in Delta’s fleet and represents a significant step forward for our international expansion,» said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta.

These aircraft will serve both to replace older ones such as the A330 and 767 and to increase capacity in key long-haul markets. The configuration will bring 15% more premium seats in the Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, and Delta Comfort+ cabins, as well as in Economy.

As detailed by the company, with this announcement the total number of aircraft pending delivery for Delta in the coming years rises to 248 narrow-body and 48 wide-body aircraft.

How does Delta Air Lines deploy its widebody aircraft?

Widebody aircraft account for 33.1% of Delta Air Lines’ offered capacity (in ASK), 10% of seats and 5.4% of flights in January 2024, according to information obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium.
