Córdoba Police Launch Drone Unit for Surveillance and Special Operations
The Córdoba Police Department in Argentina is set to launch a specialized drone unit aimed at modernizing its operational capabilities with state-of-the-art technology.
The new division, named Svant (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System), will be responsible for preventive patrols, search and rescue missions, monitoring of mass events, judicial raids, and anti-terror operations. It will also carry out surveillance in high-risk areas and during large public gatherings.
According to the provincial government, a public tender has been announced for the purchase of 15 drones with short-, medium-, and long-range capabilities, backed by an estimated investment of 7.842 billion pesos (approx. USD 6.9 million).
The equipment package also includes three outfitted utility vehicles that will serve as mobile command and control centers, as well as an anti-drone system designed to intercept unauthorized aerial activity. This system could be used, for instance, to prevent contraband from being delivered into prisons.
The Provincial Ministry of Security also stated that artificial intelligence applications will be integrated into the program to enable facial recognition, video image detection, and biometric identification, aiming to improve efficiency in both patrolling and investigations.
Svant’s main base will be located at the Provincial Aeronautics Directorate near Ambrosio Taravella Airport in Córdoba, while a secondary base will operate out of the Coronel Olmedo Aeroclub.
