The Canadian airline will provide the only non-stop flight between the province of Alberta and Spain and will also offer 1,920 seats per week on this service. With this new operation, WestJet will provide Western Canadian travelers with more options to fly to Europe in the peak season.

The new route will replace the company’s seasonal service between Toronto (YYZ) and Barcelona (BCN), which operated three flights per week. According to data compiled by Aviacionline through Aena Estadísticas, WestJet moved 39,728 passengers and 524.2 tons of cargo in 2019 between Canada and Spain in 152 operations, this represents an increase of 29.3% in passenger traffic and 267.5% in freight.

    Flight Itinerary

    • Calgary – Barcelona Flight WS 8 YYC 18:40 – BCN 12:00+1
    • Barcelona – Calgary Flight WS 7 BCN 14:00 – YYC 16:19

The service will be operated on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity of 320 passengers in classes (16 Business Class/28 Premium Economy/276 Economy) and promotional fares are available from USD 496 one way.

    Route details
    • The service will be available between May 6, 2023 and October 27, 2023.
    • Beginning in May, the route will have a weekly (Saturday) frequency with departures from Calgary.
    • Beginning May 23, 2023, the service will increase to three weekly flights operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between YYC – BCN and Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between BCN – YYC.

Canada was one of the fastest growing intercontinental markets in Spain, where three airlines operated during the high season. According to data compiled by Aena Estadísticas, 333,076 passengers and 10,610 tons of cargo were moved between the two nations in the period January – October 2022 in 1,742 operations.
