Currently, the British flag carrier operates in the Dominican Republic from Punta Cana (PUJ) via London Gatwick (LGW). Because of the tourist character of Puerto Plata (POP) could be operated in the same way from the second main London airport. This is the main base of British Airways for its leisure flights, for the boreal winter season the company could increase its offer to two destinations in the Caribbean island.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Civil Authority Aviation UK (CAA), Dominican Republic is the third largest UK market in the Caribbean. In 2019 a total of 316,473 passengers were mobilized between both nations.

    Other ongoing negotiations:

Similarly, the authorities are in negotiations with operators from South Florida, Condor from Germany, Corsair from France, and the Russian tour operator Pegas Touristik. The objective is to increase international operations and promote the arrival of tourists in Puerto Plata. Recently the Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) received a new airline of Lufthansa Group. This one is Eurowings Discover with service from Frankfurt (FRA).

The news of this negotiation was offered during the celebration of the board of directors of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores). This meeting was led by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and attended by Rafael Blanco Tejera and Andrés Marranzini, president and vice-president of the entity, respectively, and other members of the tourism sector.

«In our work agenda, Puerto Plata is our main point, and the signal was given at the Fitur fair, where after the visit of the King and Queen, two agreements were signed for new flights to the destination. We want to give Puerto Plata the hope and security that they are on our work agenda to guarantee many more flights,» added Collado.

Puerto Plata (POP) continues to be one of the Dominican airports of greatest recovery, recently JetBlue Airways and RUTACA Airlines requested operations to this destination.
