Brazil’s ANAC imposes administrative restriction on Aerolíneas Argentinas, blocking expansion in five airports
Brazilian aviation authority restricts Aerolíneas Argentinas over data-reporting failures Measure limits expansion in Brazil but does not affect current flights
Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has issued a temporary administrative restriction on Aerolíneas Argentinas, preventing the airline from expanding its operations in the country. The measure, published on Wednesday, June 25, in the Diário Oficial da União under Resolution No. 17.252, was signed on June 20, 2025.
According to the resolution, the airline is prohibited from opening new operational bases or increasing the number of flights at five airports where it already operates: Brasília (DF), Galeão (RJ), Salvador (BA), Curitiba (PR), and Florianópolis (SC). However, it is allowed to maintain all previously authorized routes and frequencies.
Currently, Aerolíneas Argentinas operates approximately 88 weekly flights between Argentina and Brazil, departing from Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Córdoba, Rosario, and Salta.
The precautionary sanction is the result of irregularities identified during ANAC inspections that the company failed to resolve. While ANAC has not officially disclosed the specific issues, documents obtained by AEROIN, Aviacionline’s partner in Brazil, reveal that between 2021 and 2024, the airline was fined 27 times for either failing to submit required monthly statistical data or submitting it with errors.
These violations led to fines totaling R$189,000 (~USD 35,000), though the company may be eligible for a 50% reduction.
Among the most serious discrepancies were passenger flights reported as cargo operations, regular services listed as non-regular, and commercial flights logged as ferry flights. One striking case in 2023 involved a scheduled flight to Salvador being filed as operated by a Boeing 707—an aircraft retired in 1993—when it was actually flown by an Airbus A330-200.
ANAC stated that the restrictions will remain in effect until Aerolíneas Argentinas fully corrects the noted issues. In response to Aviacionline, the airline confirmed that its legal team is reviewing the decision and emphasized that the current routes and flights remain unaffected, reassuring tourism operators, industry partners, and passengers.
