Global aviation finance company Avolon has placed a new firm order with Airbus for a total of 90 aircraft, comprising 75 A321neos and 15 A330neos. This agreement increases Avolon's total commitments with the European manufacturer to 413 aircraft, consolidating its fleet exclusively with new-technology aircraft from the A320neo and A330neo families.

Deliveries of these new planes are scheduled to take place progressively through 2033, providing Avolon with a steady stream of modern aircraft to offer its airline customers worldwide. The deal also provides future flexibility, including purchase rights for an additional 25 A321neos and options for 15 more A330neos.

Avolon CEO Andy Cronin stated that, "this order demonstrates our strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. Our scale and balance sheet position us to support our airline customers’ expansion and replacement needs into the next decade." Cronin also highlighted that "both the A321neo and A330neo are in high demand, and we expect this to continue given the long-term growth trajectory for the aviation sector."

Key Details of the Avolon-Airbus Agreement

How many aircraft did Avolon order? A total of 90 aircraft: 75 A321neo and 15 A330neo models.

Why are these models important? They are highly efficient, with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions reductions of 20% to 25%. The A321neo offers extended range for a single-aisle jet, while the A330neo covers long-haul routes.

What is Avolon? It is a leading global aircraft leasing company based in Dublin, Ireland, with a customer portfolio that includes major airlines around the globe.

From the manufacturer's perspective, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, noted that "lessors are excellent barometers of the aircraft market." He added that this endorsement "illustrates the strong attractiveness to a wide variety of customers of these two aircraft, the most efficient in their category with the latest technologies embedded."

The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus's best-selling A320neo family, offering a range of up to 7,400 kilometers (4,000 nautical miles). Meanwhile, the A330-900, powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, can fly non-stop routes of up to 13,300 kilometers (7,200 nautical miles), with a 25% reduction in fuel burn compared to previous-generation aircraft.

Both models are currently certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus working towards a target of 100% capability by 2030.

The final execution of this order is subject only to the approval of the shareholders of Bohai Leasing Co., Ltd., Avolon's 70% majority shareholder, a process that is anticipated to conclude before the end of August 2025.
