Avianca Launches Long-Awaited Bogotá–Córdoba Route
The airline resumes service to Argentina’s interior, marking a strategic expansion through its Ecuadorian subsidiary.
Yesterday, Avianca launched its flight from Bogotá to Córdoba, departing from El Dorado International Airport, restoring direct air service to Argentina's second-largest city.
This long-anticipated route fulfills a long-standing demand from the local market—one that was on the brink of materializing before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the aviation industry to restructure.
The flight will land at Córdoba's Ambrosio Taravella International Airport at 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, and depart for Bogotá at 7:35 a.m., arriving at 11:20 a.m. local time. The service is operated by an Airbus A320neo.
While marketed by Avianca, the operation is actually carried out by Avianca Ecuador, meaning the flight technically originates in Guayaquil. The schedule is as follows:
- Flight AV 8343 GYE 18:30 – 20:25 BOG / Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
- Flight AV 8343 BOG 22:25 – 06:10 (+1) COR / Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
- Flight AV 8342 COR 07:35 – 11:20 BOG / Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
- Flight AV 8342 BOG 13:00 – 14:40 UIO / Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
This launch marks Avianca’s return to Argentina’s interior, having previously operated Lima–Mendoza flights before the pandemic.
The airline has seen sustained growth in Argentina, which has become one of its fastest-expanding markets. Recent developments include expanded operations via its Ecuadorian and Costa Rican subsidiaries.
This expansion was enabled by a revision of the bilateral air services agreement between Argentina and Ecuador, enacted under President Javier Milei’s administration. Due to frequency caps between Argentina and Colombia, Avianca is leveraging its Ecuadorian arm, which benefits from an unrestricted Argentina–Ecuador air services agreement, allowing increased single-aisle aircraft operations. A new Memorandum of Understanding between Argentina and Colombia has been signed to liberalize frequencies, pending ratification.
Bogotá becomes Córdoba’s tenth international destination, joining a network that already includes key hubs like Lima (LATAM Airlines) and Panama City (Copa Airlines), offering seamless connections to Central America, the Caribbean, and the U.S.
Córdoba’s current international routes also include:
- Asunción (4x weekly, Paranair)
- Rio de Janeiro (2x Aerolíneas Argentinas, 7x GOL)
- São Paulo–Guarulhos (3x GOL)
- Madrid (4x Air Europa)
- Punta Cana (3x Aerolíneas Argentinas)
- Recife (1x GOL)
- Santiago (10x LATAM Airlines)
