According to Provision 21/2025, published in the Official Gazette on August 13, 2025, the low-cost airline will be permitted to operate the routes Punta Cana (PUJ) – Córdoba (COR), Punta Cana (PUJ) – Mendoza (MDZ), and Punta Cana (PUJ) – Rosario (ROS), in both directions. This measure represents a step forward in the federalization of air operations in Argentina by offering direct connections between the country's interior and a key Caribbean destination without requiring a stop in Buenos Aires.

The authorization is based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the aeronautical authorities of Argentina and the Dominican Republic on December 13, 2024. This agreement, as reported by industry sources, liberalized the bilateral air framework, removing previous frequency restrictions and laying the groundwork for an open skies policy between the two nations.

What new international routes were authorized in Argentina?

The Argentine government has authorized the Dominican airline Arajet to operate scheduled flights between Punta Cana (PUJ) and the cities of Córdoba (COR), Mendoza (MDZ), and Rosario (ROS). These routes will establish, for the first time, a direct and regular connection for these provinces with the Caribbean low-cost carrier.

The provision, signed by the Undersecretary of Air Transport, Hernán Adrián Gómez, confirms that Arajet S.A. Sucursal Argentina (CUIT No. 30-71810110-3) has met all legal and administrative requirements under current regulations and was duly designated by its home country's aviation authority. Agencies such as the National Directorate of Air Transport (DNTA) and the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) intervened and approved the process.

Arajet, which began operations in 2022, has expanded rapidly across the continent with a modern fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The company's strategy focuses on connecting the Americas through its hub in the Dominican Republic, offering competitive fares to stimulate tourism and air traffic in the region. The opening of these new routes in Argentina aligns with this goal, strengthening its presence in South America, where it already operates flights to Buenos Aires (EZE).

The introduction of these scheduled flights to Córdoba, Mendoza, and Rosario will create a new international connectivity option for passengers from the interior of the country, promoting both outbound and inbound tourism and fostering greater competition in the regional air market.
