Argentina Will Allow Tourists from Neighbouring Countries

While many provinces still have not defined whether they will accept domestic flights or under what protocols or requirements, which has caused a disorderly restart of activity in the last two days, and while the launch of regular international flights is still awaiting, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Argentina, Matías Lammens, assured today that they are moving forward in the plan to allow the entry of tourists from neighboring countries (Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay), starting in November 2.
During an interview with CNN Argentina Radio, Lammens said that they have been working all week with the Ministry of Health and the City of Buenos Aires to achieve that goal, and that the measure will surely be included in the new decree that extends the national lockdown, whose publication would take place tomorrow Sunday, and which would be complemented on Monday with an administrative decision from the Chief of Staff.
Lammens also said that tourists arrivals will be only permited by plane, and that Ezeiza International Airport would be the solely entry point. Tourist wouldn’t be allowed to leave Greater Buenos Aires area, since travel througouth the country it is only allowed for «essential workers».
The Ministry of Transport acknowledged that the main motivation for this measure is the economic factor. ‘It would be foolish to deny the need of dollars. Tourism is going to be strategic for national development in the coming years,» said Lammens. «The currency exchange situation is very attractive for the country. We believe that demand will be high,» he added.
A key and very positive fact is that those who arrive would not be required to quarantine, but only to have a PCR test with a negative result for COVID-19 prior to boarding, which could be complemented with another upon arrival (there were no definitions regarding whether the test will be free or not).
