Argentina: Pilots’ Union Warns of “Hundreds of Flight Cancellations” During Winter Holidays
The Airline Pilots Association blames the government’s Decree 378/25 and warns of major disruptions during July’s peak travel season.
The Airline Pilots Association (APLA) of Argentina has issued a strong warning about the possibility of hundreds of flight cancellations during the upcoming winter holiday season, one of the country’s busiest travel periods. The union blames the situation on uncertainty caused by Decree 378/25, a regulation they claim disrupts the aviation framework and is unworkable in practice.
In a statement released on June 24, APLA reported that airlines still lack finalized flight schedules for July. The union links this critical delay directly to the decree, which it describes as “unilateral, illegitimate, and illegal,” and vows to challenge in court.
At the heart of the issue are technical and operational complications. Airlines such as Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi, and JetSMART are reportedly unable to adjust their complex crew and fleet scheduling systems or reconfigure their aircraft to comply with a regulation they deem vague and impractical.
What’s Happening with Winter 2025 Flights in Argentina?
• Why could flights be canceled in winter 2025?
APLA warns that airlines cannot finalize their July schedules due to uncertainty created by Decree 378/25, potentially leading to widespread cancellations.• What is Decree 378/25?
It’s a new regulation from the Subsecretariat of Air Transport that, according to the union, alters the aviation framework without consultation and poses serious technical challenges.• Which airlines could be affected?
The primary players in Argentina’s domestic market—Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi, and JetSMART—are expected to be impacted.
The pilots’ union directly blames the Subsecretariat of Air Transport, accusing it of a complete “lack of planning.” APLA claims that implementing a new regulation during peak season without assessing its feasibility will significantly disrupt airline operations.
“The lack of predictability will result in hundreds of canceled flights during the winter vacation period,” the union warned, holding government authorities responsible for the potential impact on travelers and national connectivity.
As of publication time, neither the Subsecretariat of Air Transport nor the airlines mentioned have issued official responses to the union’s statement.
