Argentina: Flybondi temporarily suspends flights to Trelew
Flybondi, based in Argentina, communicated that it will suspend its flights between Buenos Aires and Trelew (REL) between March 1 and July 1 due to lack of aircraft to perform such operations.
In the last hours, Flybondi modified its reservation system, which allowed noting the lack of scheduled operations on the route, inaugurated in March 2019. In a program of LU17 radio station Fabio Orellano, municipal director of Trelew Bus Terminal and Airport, confirmed such suspension, stating that the company informed him that it will not have enough aircraft in its fleet to cover such destination.
Orellano mentions that, in the decision, occupancy is not a factor: in 2022, the company moved 51,422 passengers with an average occupancy of 87%. It currently operates three weekly flights on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft. However, the director said he is negotiating with the airline to reverse that decision.
The company will maintain its four weekly flights to Puerto Madryn (PMY), located 60 kilometers from Trelew.
The suspension of flights to Trelew coincides with an increase in frequencies from Buenos Aires to Córdoba, Mendoza, Puerto Iguazú and Comodoro Rivadavia. Sources close to the company mention that two Boeing 737-800 must undergo a scheduled maintenance overhaul, leaving 10 of the 12 aircraft with operational availability.
Currently, Aerolíneas Argentina operates 16 weekly flights between Buenos Aires and Trelew. In 2022, it moved 218,076 passengers between both cities, with an average occupancy rate of 85%.
