Alaska Airlines Launches Atmos Rewards: The New Loyalty Program Merging Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles
In one of the most strategic moves following its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines today, August 20, 2025, unveiled its new unified loyalty program: Atmos™ Rewards. This platform integrates Alaska's renowned Mileage Plan with HawaiianMiles, aiming to create a more robust and flexible rewards ecosystem for its passengers.
Starting in 2026, travelers will be able to choose annually among three methods for accrual on the company's flights:
- By distance traveled: Earning one point for every mile flown, benefiting those who take long trips at economical prices.
- By price paid: Obtaining five points for every dollar spent on the fare and upgrades.
- By segments flown: Receiving a flat 500 points for each flight leg, an ideal option for frequent flyers on short routes, such as inter-island flights in Hawaii.
Andrew Harrison, Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines, stated that Atmos Rewards "is more than a loyalty program – it’s a reflection of how guests travel today. We’re putting our members in the pilot’s seat, giving them control over how they earn and redeem."
What You Need to Know About Atmos Rewards
What is it? It's the new loyalty program that unifies Mileage Plan (Alaska) and HawaiianMiles (Hawaiian).
How do I earn points? Starting in 2026, you can choose to earn by distance, price, or segments. The current system remains in place until then.
What happens to my miles? They are converted into Atmos Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio. Their value does not change, and they do not expire.
When is the change? Mileage Plan members are already in Atmos Rewards. HawaiianMiles members will be transitioned on October 1, 2025.
On the technology front, the airline confirms the installation of Starlink's high-speed Wi-Fi system across its entire mainline fleet. This service will be free for all Atmos Rewards members starting in 2026, with the installation expected to be completed by 2027.
The new program maintains access to an extensive redemption network, including over 1,000 destinations through Alaska, Hawaiian, and more than 30 partner airlines, including the oneworld alliance. Additionally, the company strengthened its partnership with Lyft, allowing members to earn up to 3 points per dollar on rides with the platform.
New Cards and Status Benefits
To accelerate status earning, the new premium credit card Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® is being introduced, co-branded with Bank of America, which will allow cardholders to earn 1 status point for every $2 spent.
Benefits for elite members are also being enhanced. Top-tier members, Atmos Titanium, will have access to complimentary, day-of-departure upgrades to global Business Class for themselves and a companion, without requiring points or a certificate.
Brett Catlin, Vice President of Loyalty, Alliances, and Sales at Alaska Airlines, commented that with the combination of both airlines, "we seized a rare opportunity to imagine how we could make the most generous loyalty program even better."
Mileage Plan members will now see their accounts reflected under the new Atmos Rewards brand, keeping their account numbers and benefits. Meanwhile, HawaiianMiles members will be automatically migrated on October 1.
