Air Canada will initiate a significant expansion at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), introducing new non-stop routes to four key destinations in the United States and increasing frequencies on its busiest domestic services. This strategic move will begin in Spring 2026, connecting Toronto's convenient downtown airport with New York (LGA) four times daily, Boston (BOS) three times daily, Chicago (ORD) twice daily, and Washington (IAD) once daily.

The transborder expansion is made possible by the upcoming opening of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Pre-Clearance facility at Billy Bishop Airport. This will allow passengers to complete U.S. immigration and customs formalities before boarding in Toronto, arriving in the U.S. as domestic travelers.

In addition to the new U.S. routes, Air Canada will increase its domestic services from YTZ starting in January 2026. The route to Montreal (YUL) will grow from eight to nine daily flights, while the service to Ottawa (YOW) will be increased from four to six daily flights.

"This is our most significant expansion at Toronto Island since Air Canada first served the airport 35 years ago," said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada. Galardo noted that the new routes will benefit business travelers by creating easy connections between Canada's financial heart and major U.S. markets.

As reported by Air Canada in a statement, these services complement its extensive operation at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), from which it will operate more than 600 daily flights to 124 destinations next summer.

      Enhanced Onboard Experience

Coinciding with this expansion, Air Canada became the first airline this month to offer fast, free Wi-Fi on flights to and from Billy Bishop Airport. This service is being implemented for the first time worldwide on a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.

The company will also begin a cabin redesign on 25 of its Dash 8-400s operated by Jazz Aviation LP. The upgrade will include new ergonomic reclining seats from Expliseat, featuring mobile device holders and trays. This cabin modernization program is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

RJ Steenstra, President & CEO of PortsToronto, owner and operator of YTZ, called the announcement a "milestone that underscores our shared commitment to enhancing connectivity, convenience, and choice for travellers."
