Air Canada Launches Direct Flights Between Montreal and Guatemala City
Direct flights between Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Guatemala City's La Aurora International Airport (GUA) are now a reality. Air Canada has inaugurated the route, establishing the only non-stop connection between the two cities and significantly strengthening Guatemala's connectivity with North America and the rest of the world.
The inaugural flight, operating under the code AC 1369, landed in the Guatemalan capital with 291 passengers on board. For this operation, the company used one of its wide-body aircraft, an Airbus A330-300, underscoring the importance of the new link in its route network. The opening ceremony featured the traditional ribbon-cutting and was attended by diplomatic officials and airline executives.
Operation and Frequencies
This new connection will operate with a frequency of three weekly flights and is initially scheduled to cover the high season until April 29, 2026. The choice of Montreal as a starting point is strategic, as it serves as a major hub for Air Canada, facilitating passenger transit from key markets in Europe and Asia to Central America.
This service not only opens a direct door for Canadian tourism but also boosts trade development and investment attraction between both nations. For Guatemala, it represents a key opportunity to establish itself as a globally relevant tourist destination.
The Airbus A330-300 deployed on this route offers a multi-cabin configuration, including Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy, providing various options for travelers. The aircraft's capacity allows Air Canada to move a considerable volume of passengers, positioning the route as a vital bridge.
The connection through Montreal will allow Guatemalan travelers to access destinations like Paris, London, Brussels, and various cities in Asia more seamlessly, while tourists and business travelers from those regions will have a more direct option to reach Guatemala.
