Aerolíneas Argentinas has begun ticket sales for a new Córdoba (COR)–Esquel (EQS) route, offering a weekly flight, according to an update in the airline’s reservation system.
The service will launch on July 3 and operate until August 28. Flights will be conducted using a Boeing 737-800 with a 170-passenger capacity, providing a total of 1,530 seats throughout the two-month schedule.
- Flight AR 1820: COR 13:15 – 15:50 EQS / Thursday
- Flight AR 1821: EQS 13:00 – 15:20 COR / Monday
Winter Instead of Summer Operations
Initially, this new route was planned for the summer season, as announced last year by the Government of Chubut. However, the connection is now being implemented during the peak winter season.
Esquel Mayor Matías Taccetta highlighted that the route’s launch resulted from eight months of negotiations, which he finalized alongside the governor.
“This was a recurring request from our residents, especially families with children studying in Córdoba, who previously had to travel to Bariloche or make a stopover in Buenos Aires to reach their destination,” Taccetta stated.
Increased Flights to Esquel
For the upcoming winter season, flights between Buenos Aires and Esquel will increase from seven to eight weekly flights, continuing operations with Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Meanwhile, the Government of Chubut announced that it is negotiating with a second airline to expand service to Esquel and is also evaluating a potential direct connection with Brazil, though no further details have been provided.
Esquel Airport Expansion Plans
In a separate announcement, Chubut Governor Ignacio Torres confirmed the reactivation of the Esquel Airport expansion project, which had been stalled since 2020.
The expansion is expected to increase the airport’s capacity to handle flights, boost tourism and the local economy, and improve connectivity with other destinations.
