    Croatia Airlines is in plans to renew its aircraft fleet with the acquisition of six Airbus A220s by 2026, according to reports from Croatian media outlet Jutarnji.

    By the end of 2021, Croatia’s flag carrier was in talks with Airbus, Boeing and Embraer to replace its aging A319ceo and A320ceo with an aircraft that will suit its needs. The European manufacturer was an easy winner, as this order is part of a change of an existing A320neo order that the company didn’t accept, because the model that did not seem to suit the Croatian seasonal market.

    Part of Croatia Airlines’ Post-Covid strategy is to standardize its aircraft fleet with a single model and increase the efficiency of the company’s operations. Over the next four years, the airline is expected to replace all A319ceo, A320ceo and De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400s with Airbus A220s.

    «In making the decision, special attention was paid to trends in the highly competitive aviation market, fuel prices and CO2 emissions, the green policy objectives of the European Union and the demands of our passengers» stated Croatia Airlines.

    «With the new technology Airbus A220 aircraft, we ensure a better response to the specific needs of our passengers and a more efficient business model, creating the prerequisites for a sustainable business in the future, Croatia Airlines concludes», the company concluded.

    Croatia Airlines has been flying Airbus aircraft for more than 24 years, with this order the company strengthens its ties with the European manufacturer. The A220 is a model that has a capacity between 127 and 148 seats, also the needs of the air market in Croatia, where the winter season the market is considerably reduced, where an Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX can be very large to keep certain routes operating throughout the year.
