With Cusco Flights, BoA Aims to Integrate the Biggest Tourist Attractions of Bolivia and Peru
State-owned airline Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) operated its first flight to Cusco (CUZ), Peru, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the tourism link between the two nations. The service, which had its first official flight with authorities on Thursday, July 24, will operate three times a week, linking the main Peruvian tourist destination with La Paz (LPB), Uyuni (UYU), and Sucre (SCL).
The new air connection is designed to facilitate traveler flow between two of the region's most important attractions: the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia and the citadel of Machu Picchu, primarily accessed via Cusco. BoA's General Manager, Mario Borda, announced that the round-trip ticket price will be $480.
Borda detailed the operational structure, stating that one route will run between Uyuni and Cusco, another from La Paz to Cusco, and a third connecting Cusco with Sucre. The latter aims to position Bolivia's constitutional capital, served by the renovated Alcantarí International Airport (SCL), as a complementary destination for international tourists.
Regarding the aircraft, BoA's manager mentioned that equipment with varying capacities will be used, from "15, 34 to 100 passengers," and that the offering will be adjusted "depending on demand." While the airline primarily operates aircraft such as the CRJ-200 (50 seats) and Boeing 737 (over 100 seats) on its regional routes, the mention of smaller capacities could suggest the use of specialized equipment or operational agreements for lower-density routes.
