The Special Administrative Unit of the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia reported the reception of an application from Wingo to operate international routes from Medellin, Cali, and Barranquilla in Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

In this way, the Low-Cost airline seeks to add to its offer the following routes with seven weekly frequencies:

    Medellín – Mexico City

    Medellin – Curacao

    Cali – Curaçao

    Medellin – Aruba

    Medellin – Lima

    Cali – Lima

    Medellin – Quito

    Medellin – Guayaquil

    Medellin – Santo Domingo

    Cali – Punta Cana

    Barranquilla – Panama

This international expansion to which Wingo is aiming would not only continue Viva’s line of taking the low-cost model to international routes from Colombia, but also seeks to further decentralize Bogota as the country’s hub.

In this way, as well as Viva, Wingo is betting on Rionegro’s José María Córdova International Airport as a «Low-Cost international hub» and also avoids the congestion of Bogota’s El Dorado.

Likewise, Cali and Barranquilla would increase their international connectivity without having to go through Bogota.
