    Wingo continues to expand in South America and inaugurated its flights between Bogotá and Lima, Peru on Monday (28).

    The route will have a frequency of two weekly operations on Mondays and Fridays from El Dorado (with return on Tuesdays and Saturdays from the Peruvian capital), and as of July 19 a third flight will be added on Wednesdays (on Thursdays in reverse). They are carried out in Boeing 737-800 aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers in a single class and the launch fee starts at USD 179 round trip.

    From the airline they highlighted that in 2019 the flow of passengers between Peru and Colombia grew by 14.2% based on data from Migración Colombia, showing the potential of the market after it collapsed by 81.3% in the first quarter of 2021, in what they described as a «commitment to the reactivation of the air and the tourism sector.»

    «With the announcement of this destination, the Colombian low cost is consolidated as the Colombian airline with the largest number of international destinations in the market and reiterates its commitment to the demand for air connectivity not only in the country, but also in the region, while continuing to work in its purpose of democratizing the Latin American sky,» they concluded.

    Wingo’s international network covers, in addition to Lima, Guayaquil, Quito, Mexico City, Cancún, Havana, Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Aruba, Panama City and San José (CR). At a domestic level, it reaches Bogotá, Cali, Medellín (MDE), Cartagena, Barranquilla, San Andrés Island and Santa Marta.

    Competence

    Wingo will have to compete on the Bogotá – Lima route with LATAM (10 weekly flights and 1,590 seats in each direction) and Viva (9 weekly flights and 1,500 seats in each direction between the subsidiaries in Peru and Colombia).
