Volaris and TagAirlines Sign Codeshare Agreement to Boost Connectivity Between Mexico and Central America
During the Tianguis Turístico México 2025 held in Tijuana, Baja California, Volaris and TagAirlines announced a new partnership through the signing of a codeshare agreement, aimed at enhancing air connectivity between Mexico, Guatemala, and the Central American region.
The agreement was signed by Enrique Beltranena, President and CEO of Volaris, and Marcela Toriello, President and CEO of TagAirlines. It will allow both airlines to market each other’s flights under their own airline code, with operations under this model expected to begin in the second half of 2025, pending regulatory approval from the relevant authorities.
Enrique Beltranena expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, stating: “Beyond allowing us to expand our network and presence in Central America for the benefit of our Customers, this will also improve air connectivity between Mexico, Guatemala, and the region—an essential step for fostering economic development that translates into better opportunities and quality of life in our communities.” He added that the alliance will simplify booking and check-in processes for travelers.
Marcela Toriello called the deal a milestone for her company: “For the TagAirlines family, today is a great day. This agreement with Volaris will enable stronger air connectivity between Central America and Mexico.” She added that it will allow both airlines to offer a broader and better range of destination options to their customers.
Thanks to the codeshare, Volaris customers will be able to connect from various Mexican cities to more than 11 destinations operated by TagAirlines in Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, and southern Mexico, including access to tourist hotspots such as Tikal and Flores. In turn, TagAirlines passengers will gain access to Volaris’ extensive network across Mexico, the U.S., Central and South America, including top leisure destinations like the Riviera Maya.
Benefits for travelers include the ability to purchase combined itineraries in a single transaction, check baggage through to the final destination, and enjoy streamlined connections between Mexico and Guatemala.
Regarding onboard service, each airline will maintain its current model: Volaris will continue operating under its ultra-low-cost structure, while TagAirlines will preserve its regional service format tailored to short-haul routes.
