    United Airlines is strengthening its Scottish operations by doubling the number of flights between New York/Newark (EWR) and Edinburgh (EDI) beginning May 28. The Chicago-based carrier will have four daily flights between Scotland’s main city and the United States.

    According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), New York is Edinburgh’s (EDI) main transatlantic market where 197,676 passengers were mobilized in 2019. For this summer season, United will compete in this segment with Delta Air Lines.

    Current schedule.

    • New York/Newark – Edinburgh Flight UA 36 EWR 20:15 – EDI 08:05+1 daily flights.
    • Edinburgh – New York/Newark Flight UA 37 EDI 09:40 – EWR 12:20 daily flights.

    New service from May 28 to September 29.

    • New York/Newark – Edinburgh Flight UA 161 EWR 23:50 – EDI 11:30+1 daily flights.
    • Edinburgh – New York/Newark Flight UA 162 EDI 13:30 – EWR 16:10 daily flights.

    All services will be operated on Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 169 seats in three classes (16 Business Class/48 Economy Plus/108 Economy) and promotional fares are available from USD 922 roundtrip.

    United will have non-stop flights from New York/Newark (EWR), Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Washington – Dulles (IAD) to Edinburgh (EDI) with 9,464 seats offered weekly for the summer season according to Cirium. The airline is the second leading carrier in the Edinburgh transatlantic market in terms of seats per seat kilometers offered (ASK).

    International traffic at Edinburgh (EDI) maintains a continued increase in passenger traffic, in 2022 8,197,756 international passengers moved through the Scottish airport, a  87.1% recovery when compared to 2019 levels.

    «There is no doubt that people want to travel, both from Scotland for vacations or business opportunities and for international tourists coming to experience the best of Scotland’s tourist attractions and beautiful sites and landmarks,» said Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport.

    Edinburgh’s summer transatlantic offerings include non-stop flights to Newark (EWR), Chicago (ORD), Washington (IAD), Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), Atlanta (ATL), Toronto – Pearson (YYZ), Calgary (YYC), Cancun, Orlando – Melbourne (MLB) and Orlando – International (MCO).
