United Airlines begins nonstop flights between Chicago and Athens

United Airlines continues to boost its presence in the transatlantic market with the start of seasonal flights between Chicago O’Hare and Athens. The U.S. airline is increasing its offerings to Greece by 30%, in addition to flights from Newark and Washington-Dulles to the Greek capital.

Flight UA422 was operated on a Boeing 787-8 registered N28912. The aircraft took off from O’Hare International Airport at 16:42 local time on May 23 and landed at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport at 10:20 the following day, after nine hours and 37 minutes.

For this summer season, United will be the only U.S. carrier to have service to Dubrovnik, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife-South. In addition, the airline has resumed several popular seasonal services to Nice, Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome, Milan and Naples.

The flights are operated on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with 243 seats in total with 28 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, 36 Economy Plus and 158 Economy.

“We are delighted to further expand our route network in Europe with the introduction of this new flight from Athens to our main hub in Chicago,” said Thorsten Lettnin, United’s Director of Sales for Central Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Israel.

United’s European destination offerings also include service to Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London-Heathrow, Munich, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Rome-Fiumicino, Zurich, Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh, Milan-Malpensa, Reykjavik and Shannon.
