The Thales Group, a multinational company specializing in defense and electronics, is under investigation for alleged cases of bribery and corruption. The process is being conducted by the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the French authority Parquet National Financier (PNF). According to statements from both institutions, the joint investigation is focused on four Thales entities in France and the United Kingdom. The case includes potential irregularities related to arms contracts in Asia, as well as similar allegations concerning previous contracts in Brazil and other countries.
In June 2024, Thales offices in France, Spain, and the Netherlands were raided as part of a series of investigations into corruption in the sale of arms abroad. Thales had already faced accusations in countries such as Malaysia, India, and South Africa, where it was linked to the controversial South African Arms Deal, a case of bribery to secure defense contracts.

The collaboration between the SFO and the PNF reflects the growing need for international cooperation to address corruption practices in the defense industry. SFO Director Nick Ephgrave stated: “Working collaboratively with our international partners is a crucial factor in the fight against international corruption. We will rigorously investigate all possible leads in these serious allegations”

    Thales’ Response

For its part, the Thales Group has indicated that it is fully cooperating with the authorities and complies with all applicable national and international regulations. However, the investigation could have a significant impact on its reputation and global operations.

«The group complies with all national and international regulations. As the investigation is ongoing, Thales will make no further comments» was the official response.

At the time of this report, Thales’ shares had recorded a decline in the markets, reflecting investor concerns about the outcome of these investigations.
