Ucaksan’s Troy T-200: Pioneering a New Era in Turkish Light Aircraft Manufacturing

Turkish aircraft manufacturer Ucaksan successfully completed taxi tests for its new light aircraft, the Troy T-200, last Friday. The T-200 is a small, high-wing, single-engine, two-seater aircraft designed for general aviation, training, and personal use.
Development of the Troy T-200 began four years ago at Ucaksan Aircraft Systems’ industrial plant in Bursa, a northwestern province of Turkey. Emre Balci, CEO of Ucaksan, said that while Turkey’s aerospace industry has been slow to develop, the company is optimistic about the T-200’s sales and market positioning within the next five years.
Following the pandemic, demand for such aircraft has increased, and Ucaksan plans to certify the T-200 by 2023 and begin mass sales in 2024.
The T-200’s structure is made entirely of composite materials (carbon), with a titanium alloy landing gear providing exceptional structural strength. The aircraft weighs around 750 kg and features a ballistic parachute for added safety and reliability.
Although its primary market is as a training aircraft, the T-200 can be adapted for various purposes. Ucaksan is currently exploring the development of four- and six-seat aircraft, as well as aircraft for crop dusting and firefighting.
Ucaksan manufactures the entire T-200, except for the engine. The company recommends using the Rotax 914UL engine but is also testing the PD-170 engine produced by TEI, a subsidiary of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). Avionics are sold separately, with options including the Garmin package (Garmin G3X Touch, Garmin 3 Axis Autopilot, Garmin Transponder, and Garmin G5).
