Spain’s Indra visits Ukraine to explore defense cooperation and infrastructure rebuilding
A delegation from the Spanish technology firm held high-level meetings in the Ukrainian capital to discuss the supply of air defense and electronic warfare systems, as well as involvement in the country’s future reconstruction.
A delegation from Spanish technology and defense firm Indra completed a three-day visit to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian government officials, institutions, and local companies. The trip aimed to explore avenues for defense collaboration and assess Indra’s potential role in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s key infrastructure.
Supported by the Spanish Embassy and the Trade Office in Kyiv, the delegation held meetings with several deputy ministers, including those responsible for Strategic Industries and Civil Aviation. Ukrainian representatives expressed strong interest in Indra’s capabilities to help strengthen the country’s defense systems.
Ukraine’s main focus was on Indra’s long-range Lanza 3D air defense radars, which are integral to airspace surveillance for several NATO countries. Officials also valued Indra’s expertise in integrating surveillance, command and control, and communications systems to enhance operational efficiency.
Also drawing interest was the Nemus active protection system, developed by Indra to shield tanks and armored vehicles from missile, projectile, and drone attacks. Discussions also included Indra’s airborne electronic warfare systems, critical for warning and protecting aircraft in hostile environments.
Key Takeaways from Indra’s Visit to Ukraine:
- Which Indra systems interest Ukraine? The Lanza 3D air defense radars, airborne electronic warfare systems, the Nemus active protection system for armored vehicles, and Indra’s space capabilities for military operations.
- What is the main goal of the visit to Kyiv? To explore defense partnerships and contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
- Was Indra already working with Ukraine before the conflict? Yes, Indra had an existing collaboration focused on modernizing Ukraine’s air navigation systems.
The discussions also touched on the importance of space capabilities in modern military operations. Indra, through its Indra Space division, is positioning itself as a major European player in satellite development and space services.
The visit also gave Indra a chance to learn about the impressive technological advancements made by Ukrainian companies, particularly in the field of drone production, where Ukraine has emerged as a global leader.
This visit builds on a pre-existing relationship between Indra and Ukrainian authorities, which began before the conflict through projects aimed at upgrading Ukraine’s air traffic management systems. Now, the company seeks to renew and expand that cooperation to support the country’s broader postwar reconstruction efforts.
At the conclusion of the meetings, Ukrainian authorities expressed gratitude for Indra’s presence and Spain’s continued support during recent years.
