A recent reservation system update reveals that Sky High Dominicana will suspend its flights to Aguadilla (BQN), Puerto Rico, and Cayenne (CAY), French Guiana, further reducing its footprint in the Caribbean.

According to the system, the Aguadilla route will be canceled on February 24, 2025. This connection, launched on October 3, 2024, operated twice weekly between Santo Domingo/Las Américas (SDQ) and Aguadilla.

Meanwhile, service to French Guiana will end on March 23, 2025. Initially launched in June 2023 as a direct flight from Santo Domingo to Cayenne, the route was later modified in 2024 to include a stop in Fort-de-France, Martinique, as part of a partnership with Air Caraïbes.

    Challenges for Sky High Dominicana

These cancellations represent a significant setback for Sky High Dominicana, which has been scaling back its Caribbean operations in recent months. The entry of Arajet into the regional market has further pressured the airline, leading to:

    • Route discontinuations to Jamaica and St. Maarten
    • Abandonment of expansion plans in El Salvador

Additionally, Venezuelan government restrictions on international flights have impacted Sky High’s network, forcing the cancellation of routes to Caracas and Valencia.

Aviacionline reached out to Sky High Dominicana for further details on these cancellations, but no response has been received yet.

Current Sky High Dominicana Network and Fleet

Despite these reductions, Sky High Dominicana continues to operate flights to:

    • Anguilla
    • Antigua and Barbuda
    • Aruba
    • Curaçao
    • Fort-de-France
    • Georgetown
    • Havana
    • Miami
    • Pointe-à-Pitre
    • San Juan, Puerto Rico

The airline’s passenger fleet consists of two Embraer E175s and five Embraer E190s.

Meanwhile, Sky High has expanded its cargo operations, adding three Boeing 737-300F freighters, with plans to incorporate a Boeing 767-200 BDSF soon.

Reactions in Aguadilla and French Guiana

Local authorities in Aguadilla and French Guiana have expressed concern and frustration over the cancellations, according to local media reports. Officials claim they were not given prior notice and plan to meet in the coming days to discuss the impact.

For Aguadilla, the loss of this route means weaker regional connectivity and a reduced gateway to Latin America. With Sky High's exit, Aguadilla's airport will be left with flights only to:

    • Fort Lauderdale, Orlando (Frontier)
    • Newark, New York (JetBlue, United)

In French Guiana, the cancellation eliminates an indirect link to the U.S., as passengers previously accessed American destinations via Santo Domingo. Its remaining international network will now include flights to:

    • Fort-de-France, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly (Air France, Air Caraïbes)
    • Belém, Paramaribo (Surinam Airways)
    • Upcoming service to Fortaleza

With these changes, Sky High Dominicana’s position in the Caribbean is increasingly challenged, as competitors strengthen their presence in key regional markets.
