The Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro began to handle the passenger boarding processes in a totally digital way through the «Boarding + insurance» program, using facial recognition technology, which makes it possible to avoid the presentation of boarding passes.

This project was developed by the MInfra (Ministry of Infrastructure) and developed by Serpro, a federal technology agency, with the aim of making the boarding process simpler, faster and safer, according to what was reported by our partner media in Brazil, Aeroin.

Companies such as Infraero and Azul also participated in the project ensuring the supply of the necessary equipment to offer automated boarding at electronic gates. This will allow the verification and validation of the passenger’s identity when crossing information with different government databases.

According to Infraero, the average check-in time per passenger at Santos Dumont Airport will be approximately two seconds. It is a measure aligned with the best practices to combat Covid-19 in the field of air transport.
