Ryanair expressed its satisfaction with the decision of the Audiencia de La Coruña. This ruling supports the autonomy of airlines, including Ryanair, to establish their cabin baggage regulations. Additionally, it confirms that Ryanair’s policy, which allows passengers to carry one piece of hand luggage at no additional cost, aligns with the European Union (EU) legislation, promoting safety and comfort in restricted spaces.

This resolution adds to a series of judicial rulings that support the legality of Ryanair‘s policy. Courts in Madrid, Valladolid, and Santander, among others, have issued similar sentences. This set of decisions follows the line of the «Vueling» case of the European Union Court of Justice, which affirmed that airlines are not obliged to include fees for optional services, such as baggage check-in, in their basic fares.

    Ryanair Statements

Elena Cabrera, Country Manager of Ryanair, commented: «These rulings reaffirm the right of each airline to define its cabin baggage policy. Our policy not only complies with EU regulations but also offers generosity and sufficiency for transporting essential items such as laptops and medications, ensuring safety and comfort on board for all our passengers.»

Judicial support for Ryanair‘s policy could set an important precedent for the aviation sector. This decision underscores the ability of airlines to define their cabin baggage regulations, which could influence future policies of other airlines and the regulation of the sector.
