Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas launches ACMI operations for Air Algérie with Airbus A330-200
Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas has positioned one of its Airbus A330-200 aircraft in Algeria, marking the start of an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) leasing agreement with Air Algérie. The contract will enable the Algerian flag carrier to bolster its service on the route connecting Algiers (ALG) to Montreal (YUL), Canada.
The Spanish airline announced that its “aircraft is already in Algeria, ready to unite continents once again.” It added that the “first crew in the country arrives with great enthusiasm to launch the Algiers–Montreal service alongside our friends at Air Algérie, in ACMI mode.”
The Airbus A330-200 deployed by Plus Ultra for this operation is a wide-body aircraft from its long-haul fleet, ideally suited for transatlantic routes like this one. Air Algérie, which also operates Airbus A330-200s for long-distance services, is likely addressing increased seasonal demand, scheduled maintenance, or ensuring continuity on this strategic corridor through the ACMI partnership.
The Algeria–Canada air market is notably strong, driven by a significant VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) passenger segment, due to the large Algerian diaspora living in Quebec. Air Algérie has traditionally maintained a steady presence on this route.

ACMI agreements are a common tool in the aviation industry, allowing airlines to flexibly meet market demands without the long-term commitments of outright aircraft purchases or dry leasing. Plus Ultra has prior experience providing such services to international carriers.
As of this publication on May 22, 2025, further details about the specific duration or frequency of flights operated by Plus Ultra’s A330-200 for Air Algérie have not been disclosed. However, the service is expected to support sustained connectivity between the two nations throughout the duration of the agreement.
